Roger and Tanya Olver are in the process of handing over Cornish Duck to Kristian Gourlay and Kelley Nangle who are small producers farming not far from us in Fowey. The breeding stock and hatching will be kept by Roger and Tanya whilst Kristian and Kelley will be rearing, processing and marketing the meat ducks.
The initial concept of a duck farm was the result of a casual conversation after dining at Tabb’s restaurant. Nigel Tabb, in his endless pursuit of excellence, told of his frustrated efforts to source high quality locally bred duck. Realising the potential of the market, Roger and Tanya Olver began researching traditional duck breeds and the viability of a small-scale artisan operation.
Our foundation stock was originally sourced from a breeder that had spent years crossing traditional breeds of duck to optimise flavour. Eventually, we purchased a hatchery and began breeding our own duck, the ‘Terras Duck’.
We have traditionally sold at local farmers’ markets and to top class restaurants across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. These include Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Cornwall at Watergate Bay and Paul Ainsworth at Number 6, Padstow
